Texas Interlude (3) - "We were supposed to be..."

(All photos courtesy of author)

Have you been in a "We were supposed to be..." conversation lately?

"We were supposed to be helping our daughter pick out her prom dress..." "We were supposed to be on a family vacation to ______________…" "We were supposed to be attending a baby shower..." "We were supposed to be interviewing for post-graduation jobs..."

I do know that these disruptions, however real, are trivial compared to the loss of life and livelihood being experienced by many. The weight of the daily news is almost unbearable. Like everyone, Doug and I have looked for ways to help: donating to local and national emergency funds, signing up for a blood drive, staying physically distant but virtually present.

Our family has been very fortunate so far. We hope you and yours have, too. Our older daughter is working from home in Massachusetts; our younger daughter is attending her college classes online from Texas, where we are staying with my 85-year-old mom, who continues in relatively good health; Doug and I are both working remotely. I've actually been working more than usual, helping to support the firm's small business clients who need accounting help as they apply for emergency loans.

So what is a "No Fixed Address Travels" blog about when we are at a fixed address and not traveling?!?

We have used some of our stationary time to take care of the RV. My colleagues had put together a fun going-away set of gifts, so I've been using the laundry bag (pictured above) and the 3M Command strips (plus additional 3M Command hooks and shelves) to organize and personalize our rig:

A little late updating the calendar page...

A batik print from St. Kitts.

A handy spot for jackets by the door.

Extra shelving in the medicine cabinet.

A going-away card of encouragement from our church's youth group.

A dreamcatcher in the bedroom (and it just fits behind the slide!)

We also took advantage of the driveway and a nearby RV wash center to clean some of the road dirt off the rig:

Was it a cleaner rig that invited an invasion of poisonous asp caterpillars (southern flannel moth larvae), which swarmed our tires and had to be scraped off (before and after cocooning) while we avoided being stung?

"We were supposed to be..." - in Bishop, California, attending the working RVers Xscapers Convergence, and then visiting good friends in Twentynine Palms, California - not dropping masses of poisonous wrigglies into a bucket of soapy water.

Still, so far we are healthy and with loved ones. Right now, that's enough.

Let's all stay safe until we can get back on the road to somewhere!
